Our sports surfacing project for Crawley Tennis Club
Crawley Lawn Tennis Club, located in West Sussex, is a flourishing facility featuring six outdoor courts alongside three indoor courts. In 2017, the club reached out to Sports Surfacing Solutions with a request to audit their courts and provide proposals for a comprehensive refurbishment of all nine courts.
The refurbishment schedule was meticulously designed to accommodate the club’s fixtures and ongoing member activities. Special attention was given to minimising disruptions and ensuring continued access for players throughout the renovation period.
As part of the project, two of the club’s older courts were identified for resurfacing, which involved applying a new macadam overlay to restore their playing quality and longevity.
Some exterior areas of the courts had been affected by root incursions. To address this, roots were first removed from beneath the playing surfaces. Following this, an external root barrier system was installed to prevent future root penetration and safeguard the courts’ integrity.
All courts, including the indoor facilities, underwent a thorough deep clean. Afterwards, each court was finished with a two-tone green and blue slip-resistant acrylic colour coat. Distinct white tennis court markings were applied to complete the refurbishment, ensuring both safety and visual appeal for players and spectators alike.
Professionally pressure washed using a bespoke high-volume, multi-nozzle floor-based system which removed all moss, algae and detritus from the surface and within the pores of the macadam.
Applied a non-residual moss and chemical treatment to kill off any remaining moss to inhibit immediate future growth.
Supplied and installed a root barrier to the external side of two courts.
Surface preparation of 2 courts, including tree root removal before a 6mm Open Graded Macadam Surface course for Tennis was laid and rolled.
Application of binder specific to the individual courts needs before two coats of slip resistant acrylic colour coating and court lines for tennis were applied.
