Our sports surfacing project for Lumley Junior School, Durham
Lumley Junior School, located near Durham, initially approached Sports Surfacing Solutions towards the end of 2016. The school sought professional advice regarding the refurbishment of their outdoor Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), which had fallen into a state of disrepair and was in urgent need of restoration to return it to its original condition.
Once suitable funding was secured, the school proceeded with the refurbishment project. Sports Surfacing Solutions was officially commissioned to undertake the work, which commenced in April 2017.
The refurbishment involved resurfacing a total of 559 square metres of the outdoor court space. This was achieved using a 6mm layer of Open Macadam material, providing a durable and high-quality base for various sporting activities.
Following the resurfacing, the court was carefully marked out to accommodate three mini red tennis courts, each set to the official Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) sizes. The tennis courts were then colour sprayed with red acrylic paint, complemented by a dark green outer area to enhance visual appeal and functionality.
In addition to the tennis courts, further markings were added to maximise the versatility of the MUGA. This included a full-size netball court, marked in yellow, and a 5-a-side football pitch marked in blue, ensuring the space could be utilised for a variety of sports and activities.
