Our sports surfacing project for Withernsea Lawn Tennis Club, Hull
Withernsea Lawn Tennis Club approached us with the goal of revitalising tennis activities for the local community. Their vision was to create a contemporary outdoor tennis facility to serve both current and future generations of players. Central to this vision was the establishment of three new macadam courts, designed to provide a high-quality playing surface and encourage wider participation in the sport.
The project commenced by assessing the existing facilities, which comprised two disused grass courts and an ageing macadam court. Recognising the limitations of the current infrastructure, it was evident that a significant upgrade was necessary to meet the club’s aspirations and community needs.
To address these needs, SSS was awarded the contract to construct a new set of three macadam courts. A notable feature of the new facility was the inclusion of floodlighting, ensuring the courts could be utilised all year round, regardless of daylight hours. This enhancement significantly extended the potential playing time for members and the local community alike.
Construction work began in November 2024, with the main building phase reaching completion by the end of January 2025. The final stage of the project involved applying an acrylic colour coating to the courts. As this process required suitable weather conditions, it was carried out in early June, marking the successful completion of the transformation and the official reopening of the facility.
